4 ways to create more accessible employee engagement surveys

Last updated November 2024

Employee engagement surveys are excellent tools.

They’re one of the best ways to improve all areas in your workplace – from wellbeing to productivity.

But without everyone being able to access and respond to engagement surveys, the feedback you receive won’t be representative of your full team.

That’s why accessible surveys matter – it’s about giving a voice to all.

When you truly understand your whole team, you’ll be able to make positive changes that matter to the majority.

At Stribe we believe that no matter where you are, what role you play, or what background you come from, your voice deserves to be heard and valued.

Get a dedicated survey app for mobile users

Alternative employee engagement survey platforms – like Google Forms and SurveyMonkey – don’t have a dedicated survey app which allows employees to complete surveys via their mobile phones.

Instead, most surveys are sent to employees’ email inboxes which excludes all employees that don’t have computers, aren’t traditionally desk-based, and are considered dispersed employees.

At Stribe, we specialise in helping dispersed workforces and our surveys are built to reach everyone – no matter where they are located.

With Stribe, your employees can complete surveys via email, QR code, or via Stribe’s employee engagement iOS and Android app – whichever is easiest and quickest for them.

Find a solution for non-desk based staff

Continuing on from the point above, not everyone has a company email address or laptop, making it difficult for managers to check in on these employees.

For some organisations, that means hundreds – sometimes thousands – of workers that are excluded from sharing their thoughts, feelings, experiences and challenges.

If you are unable to include this group in your employee engagement surveys, you won’t have a full picture of how your entire workforce is feeling over time.

To solve this problem, Stribe has a built-in QR code surveying tool for non-desk-based staff.

Once a QR code is generated in Stribe and linked to a survey, it can be printed out and scanned by employees around the office to give their anonymous responses.

Choose a platform that offers adjustments for different employees’ needs

Interface adjustments create a more inclusive experience for your employees completing your surveys.

For example some people prefer larger font sizes to make reading easier, other people like to work in light/dark mode depending on their lighting situation.

Choosing a survey platform that offers these choices ensures that everyone can engage with engagement surveys comfortably – which also helps to gather more honest and comprehensive feedback.

At Stribe we are committed to continually improving the accessibility of the platform based on our customer’s experiences.

Parts of Stribe’s interface that are currently adjustable:

  • Font sizes
  • Zoom level
  • Colour contrasts

Make sure the survey platform is compliant with web accessibility guidelines

Finally, you should make sure that the employee engagement survey platform you choose is compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

This means the platform has been built in a way to accommodate for all users including:

  • Neurodivergent
  • Vision impaired
  • Hearing impaired
  • Mobility impaired
