Employee satisfaction survey questions to measure job happiness

Last updated February 2025

It’s every HR manager’s biggest question…

Are our employees happy at work?

A job satisfaction survey is the easiest way to find out – after all, treating your employees like adults and simply asking them how they feel, is often the best starting point when it comes to anything to do with employee happiness and wellbeing.

The right employee satisfaction survey questions will reveal any hidden frustrations and help you create a workplace where people genuinely enjoy showing up each day.

The difference between employee satisfaction vs. employee engagement

Employee satisfaction is about being happy at work, while employee engagement is about feeling motivated and committed to doing great work.

Employee satisfaction

Employee satisfaction (or job satisfaction) relates to how happy someone is with their job. Employee satisfaction factors include:

  • Fulfilment
  • Job security
  • Pay and benefits
  • Work-life balance
  • Growth opportunities
  • Team culture
  • Recognition

Employee engagement

Employee engagement goes a step further – it means someone is not just happy, but also motivated and interested in their work.

Engaged employees care about what they do, feel connected to their company’s mission, and put in extra effort because they genuinely want to.

Why should you run an employee satisfaction survey?

Let us put it this way – if you’re NOT running employee satisfaction surveys, you’re missing a massive opportunity to create a better workplace for your staff.

How can you expect to improve team happiness if you don’t know what’s really going on?

A satisfaction survey gives employees a voice, helping you figure out what’s working and what’s not.

Without regular check-ins, small frustrations can build up, leading to disengagement and turnover. But when employees feel heard and valued, they’re more motivated, productive, and likely to stick around.

If you want a thriving and happy team, gathering feedback is essential – simple as that.

How to run employee satisfaction surveys with Stribe

Measuring your team’s job satisfaction doesn’t have to be difficult.

At Stribe we recommend pulse surveys as our top tool for conducting your employee satisfaction survey.

Pulse surveys are short, frequent surveys that allow you to check in with employees regularly (rather than waiting for quarterly or annual surveys).

They’re quick and easy to complete – usually around 5 – 10 questions long – meaning employees are more likely to respond, and you get real-time insights into workplace satisfaction.

Pulse surveys are also great for tracking (and benchmarking) responses over-time – you can spot trends, address any concerns early and measure improvements.
